Book desription: London: J. Allen, 1826. Early grey paper-covered boards, darker grey spine with original paper title label. 459 pages, plus 34 pages at rear of maps & engravings, some colored. At the front of the book are 2 fold-out maps, one of them entitled "Map of part of Lambeth & Westminster, showing the proposed site of the intended new bridge", & the other, "Plan of the Parish of St. Mary Lambeth, divided into districts, from an actual survey made in the year 1824". The second map is in color. Engraved frontispiece showing St. John's Church, Waterloo Road; occasional plates & small engravings in the text. Exterior has wear at corners, & splits showing at both sides of the spine, & one to the spine itself; however, the binding is quite firm, with newer endpapers (crack just starting at bottom of front endpaper). Section of plates at the back has uneven fore-edge. Most pages are clean; some, including title page, are toned, mostly minimally; frontispiece has light waterstain at bottom. Hardly any foxing - just an occasional spot. Red silk bookmark, detached. Neat old ink name. First map has one 4" tear, repaired with ancient tape, which has browned, otherwise whole. Second map is lightly toned, but sound, & the colors are bright. In Mylar protector. More photographs available on request from bookseller.. Hard Cover. Good Plus/No Jacket. Octavo.
