Book summary

Carol Lea Benjamin's seventh mystery starring New York PI and volunteer pet therapist Rachel Alexander is the first in the series written in the post-9/11 era, a setting which permeates the book. When Detective Timothy O'Fallon dies after an apparent accident cleaning his service revolver, Rachel is shocked to learn that she's the executor of the victim's will. After all, she barely knew O'Fallon, a mostly silent member of a 9/11 support group where she and her pit bull Dashiell did pet therapy. Although most assume the death was a suicide, Rachel wonders if it was actually murder, and to that end, pursues various leads, including O'Fallon's shady roommate and the extremely tragic history of O'Fallon's family.
