Adam Bede, by George Eliot, in an edition titled Works of George Eliot: Adam Bede, published by Edwin S. Stuart Publishing, in Philadelphia undated, but carries an inscription on the inside front cover giving owner name and "Christmas 1886". (Edwin Stuart was better known as a newspaper publisher, and for his political career, later serving as governor of Pennsylvania). Pages are slightly brittle, and a few are loose in the binding, but the book is mostly quite solid. Pages have tanned naturally, but text is still quite readable. Bound in reddish-brown leather with gold lettering on the spine. See illustration of cover and spine in accompanying photo.
