Book Description

Edinburgh & London: William Blackwood. Very Good/Poor. 1931. First Edition. Hardback. With a few illustrations. 292pp. The "reeling" of the earth - that is to say, the periodical divergence over thousands of years of its axis - is a proved scientific fact, and from this basis the author has drawn some startling deductions. He traces the course of the great glacial periods; and by geological and other proofs he shows that we must revise our ideas of the placing within these periods of the surviving monuments of prehistoric man, such as Stonehenge, Maiden Castle in Dorset and the dolmens of Brittany. He brings forward a new theory concerning the purpose and mutual relationship of the dolmen, stone circle and earthwork. This is an unusual and enthralling book. Green cloth boards with decorative gilt to front board. Lettering to spine a little faded; corners and top/bottom of spine slightly rubbed and bumped. Contents in Very Good condition. Dust-jacket has some tears, plus some large and small sections missing from spine and corners - repaired with archival tape. A Very Good copy in a Poor dust-jacket. .
