Extensive use is made of Tchaikovsky's letters, as well as of the recollections of contemporaries. Use is made, too, of the latest Soviet research on this man who was admired and maligned, praised and criticised, but who stands as arguably the most significant composer of 19th century Tsarist Russia. In this new biography, Wilson Strutte examines the background to Tchaikovsky's life. In addition, the background to the 6 symphonies, the ballets and the operas, as well as such universally known works as the '1812 Overture', 'Romeo and Juliet,' and the First Piano Concerto in B flat minor is traced in detail. Feint foxing spots to end papers and top page edges. Dust-jacket has minor rubbing to corners and top/bottom of spine all reinforced with archival tape; spine of jacket slightly faded but lettering still very clear; jacket is in protective cover. Otherwise a clean copy in Very Good+ condition in a Very Good dust-jacket. .
