This work describes an area centred on Clitheroe and includes parts of Bowland, Craven and north-east Lancashire. The solid rocks here are almost wholly of Carboniferous age, and display, particularly in the Carboniferous Limestone, one of the thicker and more complete sequences in the country. The succession is described with a wealth of detail. There are comprehensive accounts of the classic geological ground of the Clitheroe reef-knolls, and of the northern part of the Burnley Coalfield. The Carboniferous palaeontology receives exhaustive treatment. This memoir should be of considerable value to all concerned with mining, quarrying, construction and planning within the district, and of much general interest to students of geology and to those interested in the natural history of this scenically attractive part of Northern England. Dust-jacket has very slight rubbing to extremities including corners and top/bottom of spine - repaired inside in a couple of places with archival tape; jacket is in loose protective cover.
