The Battleby Kluge, Alexander
DescriptionNew York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1967. This Stated First Edition (and if it isn't stated, it's not) is in Near-Fine condition with a Fine dust jacket. (Click on photo.) Taken from the dust jacket: "In 'The Battle', Kluge records in pitiless detail the pitiful vastness and wastefulness of war by dissecting the battle of Stalingrad in winter 1942 -- as it was talked about in the council rooms and in press briefings; as it was preached about by clerics back home; as it was fought by tired, half-starved and half-frozen men; and as it was finally lost." The book was translated from the German by Leila Vennewitz. This book would be in Fine condition, except that several pages have very small stains (possible coffee drips?) Other than that, it is clean and tight, with no signatures or inscriptions from former owners. The unclipped dust jacket is in Fine condition, with only minimal shelf wear. I have placed it into a Brodart protective sleeve. The book measures 6 by 8 5/8 inches and includes 255 pages.. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
