Media reviews

"Hunter writes with masterful assurance, creating outstandingly lucid characters with some of the best dialogue in fiction today. His strangely feasible plot builds the suspense in flirtatious degrees, while Hunter digs deeper and wider through the bizarre motivations that drive the most ordinary people form hidden delusions to overt acts of deranged compulsion."

"I discovered the esteemed novelist Evan Hunter, aka Ed McBain (creator of the world reknowned 87th Precinct police procedurals) two years ago. I have read & re-read approximately twenty of this late great American novelist's 100 novels. Hunter is credited with having created the police procedural & has earned innumerable plaudits as a world class writer. His first published novel, BLACKBOARD JUNGLE, written a half century ago, showed Hunter's tremendous promise but only hinted at his amazing versatility & fecundity.

PRIVILEGED CONVERSATION remains one of my personal favorites. Written after CRIMINAL CONVERSATIONS (another terrific read) became a best seller & was acquired by Tom Cruise to be adapted for the screen (still unrealized), this novel dramatizes the professional & private life of a successful, self-assured N.Y. psychiatrist with a beautiful wife & children whose serendipitous meeting with a young actress during an intervention of a theft in Central Park creates an immense upheaval in the shrink's life as he is sucked into a vortex of eroticism & duplicity.

Hunter has long been known for his masterful unpredictable portraits of flawed men & women who yield to temptation & get in way over their heads. This erotic thriller will sustain your interest from the first page to the last. PRIVILEGED CONVERSATION is flawlessly written & one of Hunter's finest works.
