These volumes are directly translated from the original German volumes published between 1785-1789 and are the first French editions. Volume 5 begins with the popular story of Willem Ysbrand Bontekoe's voyage to the East-Indie followed by the largest part of the volume relating to the account of Cook's voyage around the world, together with the scholars Banks and Solander, undertaken in 1768-1771. Volume 6 continues and ends the account of Cook's voyage around the world from 1768-1771, which Campe adapted after the account of Hawkesworth. With a preface by Campe in which he defends his new "educational" adaptation in spite of the fact that Cook's voyage had already earlier been adapted for (little) children by a certain Mr. Pabst. The missing pages in volume 5 are all Cook related, that chapter having begun on page 77. Scarce. . 1st. Fair.
