"...catalogue ... was prepared in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name held in the Kress Gallery of the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art, the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, from August 21 through October 16, 1983. Each of the sixteen contemporary quilt artists invited to participate in this exhibition was asked to consider the influence of traditional quilts and quiltmaking on his or her worl. To illustrate that in influence visually, each artist was then requested to select the traditional quile, whether old or new, which shows that relationship. This catalogue provides a short biographical sketch of each contemporary artist followed by a personal statement relating the contemporary work and the traditional quilt or pattern that inspired it."
