Folios. 2 volumes in 11 folders, in publishers decorated blue cloth portfolios with white cloth spines. The glue originally holding text leaves in place has disintigrated and the sheets are now loose in portfolios. Hundreds of illustrations including tipped in sepia prints and all 44 full-page colored lithograph plates called for. The portfolios are generally exceptionally clean, sound, and bright, folder 7 has some slight wrinkling on front board. In addition to the color plates, the volumes contain illustrations tipped-in text printed on tissue and laid down. At the front of Volume One is a facsimile letter from General William Sherman to the publisher, George Barrie. A scarce set with attractive color plates. A limited edition, this set is #298.
