Book description: Harvard University Press. Very Good/Very Good. 1980. First Edition. Hardback. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall 0674009754 Richly illustrated with drawings and photographs. 196pp including Bibliography and Index. In a splendid combination of text and illustrations, the author traces the evolution of birds, from their emergence in the Age of Reptiles to their endless variety today. His recounting of the spectacular discovery of the 'Archaeopteryx' fossil, the oldest relic of avian life, represents science writing at its best. Equally fascinating is the discussion of the evolution of flightlessness in both modern birds and extinct avian giants. Boards a little rubbed at corners and top/bottom of spine. Dust-jacket is price-clipped, with foxing spots on the inside, bumping to corners and a tiny chip repaired with archival tape; jacket is in loose protective cover. Overall a nice copy in Very Good condition in a Very Good dust-jacket. .
