Book desription: London: Printed for Taylor and Hessey, 1818.. ix,[1],errata leaf,[2],[3]-207,[1],[2 leaves of ads]. Large octavo. Full blue crushed levant, raised bands, spine gilt extra, gilt inner dentelles, t.e.g., fore and bottom edges wholly untrimmed. Slight soiling to upper board, otherwise an unusually nice, large copy, complete with the half- title and two leaves of ads. First edition of the author's second book, this copy with the five-line errata tipped in. One of Keats's letters make it plain that the five-line errata leaf was prepared prior to publication, and any question of ascribing to copies with the one-line errata leaf precedence of issue in terms of publication is probably unjustified. Keats wrote this extended poem in four books when he was twenty- one, and in his preface he willingly described it as "a feverish attempt rather than a deed accomplished." He dedicated it to another precocious genius, Thomas Chatterton. HAYWARD 232 ASHLEY III:13.
