Book description: London: Darton, Harvey and Darton, 1816 Two entomological works of Priscilla Wakefield, On Insects published by Darton, Harvey in 1816, and Letters on Entomology, published by Geo. B. Whittaker in 1825, have been bound together in a beautiful French binding by the famous Thouvenin perhaps at the request of the French owner Henri Caron whose name is inscribed in the preliminaries. On Insects contains 12 full page color engravings with facing pages coded to identify the insects depicted. The Letters contains three color engraving pages done by Fenner with insect identifications at the bottom of the pages. Faintly foxed throughout. Front cover carefully reattached. Marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Spine, signed by Thouvenin, with separate red morocco titling pieces for each of the 2 titles and 3 other gilt ruled, decorative stamped panels and gilt at spine ends. Panel at head of spine appears to have had some restoration as it is somewhat darker in tone and a little flater.. First Edition. Quarter Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Trade.
