Translated from the French by John Russell, this is the first American edition. Some minor bumping on board edges and browning of text edges. DJ (clipped and in Brodart) is quite soiled and worn on the top edge. A fictional account of the French worker-priest movement of the earlier part of the 1900's when the Catholic Church in France promoted the living out of priestly vocations in the mines, factories and mills in order to win back the lost and disillusioned. .
