This book is from a collection purchased from his personal library. 300 pp. Introduction by Alexander Liberman (5 pp. ) , 468 Photographic images including 71 in color, Comments by Penn interspersed, A Work Chronology in Detail by Arrowsmith (Illustrate d, 11 pp. ). A self-selected overview by Penn of the exceptional images he produced steadily between 1938 and 1990. Presented chronologicall y are examples of Walker Evans-like street scenes from the late 1930's, studio images from the Peruvian and African native, worker, and biker series, and throughout innumerable striking fashion images, still lifes, and portraits, most of this prolific output related to his association with Vogue magazine. Packaged in a hefty, beautifully produced volume. The B/W plates were made from 300 line screen quadritone negatives prepared by Richard Benson and Thomas Palmer, resulting in great tonal fidelity in the printed images. The color plates were printed in 4 colors, also using 300 line screen separations. Signed by Author . |
