Dated 1905, 1906 and 1907. Limited edition, hand-numbered 165 of one thousand twenty-five copies. Decorated cloth bindings. Illustrated with 62 colored plates, 62 photogravures and 154 B & W plates. 365, 299 and 384 pages, respectively. Each volume measures 14 x 13 inches, with a 3 inch width; entire set takes up 9 inches of shelf space. Extremely rare set of folios, profusely illustrated with hundreds of vivid plates depicting the various mammals. Blue boards with gilt lettering, backed with darker cloth. Gold rules and titling to spine, with gilt page tops. Rough-cut fore-edges and tails. Rubbed edges and bumping to the lower extremities and tips. 1.25 inches crack to the groove of volume 3, while each has light foxing edge-wise. Hints of toning to boards. Interiors are in remarkable shape, with the plates having retained their exquisite details. Light foxing to prelims and offsetting to endpapers. One plate has become stuck to its tissue-guard, but overall the text blocks of each is remarkably well-preserved overall. Very fine and rare set.
