New York, Boston, et al:: Various publishers,. 1914 - 1988.. First edition collection. Winner of four Pulitzer Prizes for Drama and the 1936 Nobel Prize for Literature, Eugene O'Neill (1888-1953) is widely considered to be the greatest American playwright. The Nobel committee cited him for the power, honesty and deep-felt emotions of his dramatic works, which embody an original concept of tragedy, saying "In choosing Eugene O'Neill as the recipient of the 1936 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy can express its appreciation of his peculiar and rare literary gifts and also express their homage to his personality in these words: the Prize has been awarded to him for dramatic works of vital energy, sincerity, and intensity of feeling, stamped with an original conception of tragedy." ABOUT THE COLLECTION: 44 books plus a 12-volume (signed) set of his works; 41 are first editions, including a few first combined editions; 23 are SIGNED or INSCRIBED by O'Neill with personal inscriptions with good associations; several are signed by his wife, other contributors, or cast members for the plays. It would be very difficult to put together a SIGNED COLLECTION as nice as this, nearly complete & in overall very good to near fine condition. Details available upon request. .

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
