Baltimore: Miller & Beacham, 1848. Sheet Music. Very Good. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Complete with six pages including the cover. Light wear; removed from a bound volume so a little rough at the left edge. Issued in honor of General Persifore Smith. Outnumbered nearly two-to-one, Smith launched a pre-dawn bayonet attack against the Mexican forces that had fortified the town of Contreras, and were blocking Winfield Scott's final approach to Mexico City. Within seventeen minutes, Smith's division had captured 80 officers, 3,500 soldiers, and 33 cannon, as well as opening up the approach for the main assault on the Mexican capitol. Terrific cover illustration shows an American eagle and two soldiers overlooking Contreras and assorted spoils of the battle.
