Book description: New York: Harper & Brothers Volume XII - June to November 1856. Published in 1856. Leather spine and corners, showing scuffing. Steel engravings through the book. Paper on front cover and back has some peeled off, all tight w/sl ight foxing to pages. Contains: (just a few) Insects & Life; Negroland and the Negroes (Africa); the Plague in London and Marseilles; Six Years in a German Prison, Soldiering in Oregon, etc. Also has excerpts from a book by James P. Beckwourth (Mountaineer, Scout and Pioneer), and Chief of the Crow Nation of Indians. Approx. 1805 he established a trading post in the area of the Black Foot Indians. He married the Chief's daughter (both of them), then joined the Crow nation and even became Chief. Very interesting stories. American Indians, Monthly magazines, western americana.. Hard Cover.
