ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: This exhibit was designed to showcase Benson Bond Moore's landscapes in a seasonal perspective. Moore grew up in the Washington, DC area and painted it extensively. He became a noted painter of scenes of nature, and his style early in his career showed the Barbizon School influence but later became more Impressionist and less Tonalist. His snow scenes are especially popular. With Charles Seaton, Winfield Clime and Edwin Cassedy, he became a founding member of an informal group of Washington painters who called themselves "The Ramblers Sketch Club." He belonged to more than forty arts organizations and was a founding member of The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington D.C. From childhood, he had sketched animals, often at the National Zoo, and in later years he did over 3700 illustrations of animals in the newspaper, "The Evening Star's" series entitled "Nature's Children." He also did numerous paintings for the Smithsonian that were reproduced in their "Scientific Series." . Stapled Softcover. Very Good. 8.5" x 11".
