THE GIANT of the NORTH has his bookplate to inner front board and a SIGNASTURE of BALLANTYNE on piece tipped into the front enpaper of the book. The ROVER of the ANDES, RED ROONEY, THE ISLAND QUEEN also have the authors "Ballantyne's" signatures tipped in on piece from letters. ALL BOOK titles have been checked for completeness and are sold as collated. They are all in their ORIGINAL cloth. Condition varies from FINE to FAIR, MOST being VERY GOOD+, just the odd title rubbed and/or worn, full and precise details will be provided upon request. Some foxing to some titles. No modern inscriptions occur and contemporary inscriptions ignored for the purposes of this advert, but details can be provided. (NONE noticed to be a detraction). ALL are octavo,(approx 7 x 5 inches or larger) to collect these titles today would take years, even with the advent of the NEW web sites offering everything in multiples. I can honestly say many of these titles seen at present, on current web sites ARE NOT firsts and the wording is misleading or just erroneous, most are listed as firsts out of ignorance and lack of dates present with the books (mostly an indication of a later printing) and also NOT checking binding states. I GUARANTEE this COLLECTION with my experience of 30 years of selling books, coupled with this web site and my personal integrity. I would not wish to sell something not as advetised. The importance of this collection cannot be stressed. This writer personally changed the reading habits of under 18 year old boys in the 19th century. His pioneering work in offering tales for boys of a certain age. Publishers for the first time started to produce books aimed at BOYS only, and with his diligent researching of the the backgrounds for nearly all his stories, all combined to made him a legendary figure in his lifetime. His story CORAL ISLAND influenced Robert L Stevenson to write TREASURE ISLAND.A Good investment. One of the few areas on the major web sites where copies of these books either appear in small numbers, less than a handful of copies or not at all. Copies of the earlier part 19th century seem to NOT appear or are re-bound, or are so worn that as a collector, you can find it easy to ignore. THESE ARE IN A SUPERIOR condition in the main. BOUGHT as a a collection from a retired teacher. Collected lovingly over 40 years.**** NOTE*****xxxxx BONUSxxxxx:::: with this order THE THREE KITTENS 1859 and LIFE of a SHIP 1861, both "first editions in original cloth" will be included FREE with this collection + 4 "Ballantynes Miscellany SERIES" books also included FREE.
