From School Library Journal-Grade 8 Up--Townsend offers readers a typical romance with the extra fillip of ocean sailing and racing. Blaze, 19, arrives as a newly hired sailing instructor at a Texas coast sailing school. Jack Trent, owner of the school, is one of the leading men, along with another instructor and an English rock star. The sailing expertise seems well integrated, and is considerably more involving than the slightly confusing plot. The story develops through the tangle of racing rivalries and angry misunderstandings between star-crossed lovers that this genre's fans thrive on. As usual, a close female friend is lacking, and sex is more implied than explicit. Readers are told that the heroine is strong and independent, yet interest is centered on her romantic relationships rather than her sailing skills. Series romance readers may enjoy this one, complete with contrived suspense at chapter endings, childish pranks that result in emotional confrontations, headstrong recklessness that pays off, and absolutely no realistic work or struggling to succeed. Other readers looking for depth and character development can skip it. --Carol A. Edwards, East Central Regional Library, Cambridge, MN Copyright 1989 Reed Business Information, Inc.. First Edition.
