(N.p.: Newfield Publications, N.d). First edition. Quarto, white plastic covers, unpaginated; numerous illustrations. Typography for the book by Cooper and Beatty. Work by the finest Canadian graphic designers of the period. Ugly blacked-out address lablel on the front paste-down has offset onto the front free endpaper, ex-libris Past Master's Club as noted on address label on rear pastedown, front gutter is darkened and has a 2 cm crack, covers are lightly soiled. Dust jacket preserved in a mylar protector, but has several tears and is chipped at the head of the spine. [Oversize*].
ex-libris : A former library book, generally containing library acquisition and ownership stamped markings, and other typical indications of the library's use.
dust jacket : A protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.
chipped : A defect in which small pieces missing from the edges.
front free endpaper : The portion of the endpaper which is left loose after binding. The first loose page upon opening a book. It may be plain or decorative.
paste-down : The portion of the endpaper that is glued to the inner boards of a book. Often used as front paste-down or rear past-down.
soiled : Generally refers to minor discoloration or staining.
gutter : The inside margin of a book, the edge of the pages nearing the binding.
pastedown : The paper glued to the inside cover of a hard cover book.
quarto : A term used generally to describe the approximate size of a book, a book that is about 10" to 12" tall and roughly squarish in shape. The term is based on the size of paper traditionally used by book printers which has been folded and cut into 16 pages.
