Book desription: LONDON: GEOFFREY BLES, 1961. Classic children's story. First book of the 'Narnia' series. First published in 1950. 5th reprint of the first edition reproducing the original dust jacket art. Illustrated dust jacket. Front of the DJ depicts two of the children on Aslan the Lion's back, watched by two Fauns. Grey background. Illustration on the DJ's spine of a faun carrying an umbrella. Dust Jacket condition: Tears and pieces missing on the corners of the DJ, but the bulk of the jacket survives. Large split on front of DJ/DJ spine edge(5.7 cm). Smaller split on DJ Spine/back of DJ edge(3 cm approx). Bottom back corner edge of DJ is missing for a length of 6.5 cm from the cover edge of the book. The dust jacket tear starts 2cm up from the bottom edge of the book and slopes down. All text on the back of the dust jacket (review quotes of other Narnia titles) can be read. Title on DJ spine is complete(though affected by tears). Original price on dust jacket has not been clipped. There are also tape residue marks on the top part of the DJ spine/front cover edge. Turquoise blue cloth boards. Silver gilt title on board spine. Slight wear on board edges. Small areas of brown marking on boards. Small area of brown marking(tape residue) on a small area of the pastedown(on the reverse of the front board). 'JOCE' written in red felt tip on the front free endpaper, plus some pencil writing which has mostly been erased. There is also a brown mark, from tape residue on this page. Colour frontispiece illustration, depicting a playful Aslan and Susan and Lucy. Black and white interior illustrations. Very little foxing on the interior pages, but there are some small stains on page edges. A word or two of text has slight surface damage on one or two pages. Boards are not completely flat. Pages are clean(no scribbling etc) and tight. Slight potential weakness to binding at the back of the book. A very collectable title.
