From the website of the Baylor University Library: "A. Garland Adair was born in 1889 in Cass County, Texas. After graduating from The University of Texas in 1914, he edited newspapers in Marshall, Mexia, Abilene, Breckenridge, and McCamey. Following military service in World War I, he became active in the American Legion and edited its news organ, the Texas Legion News. As chairman of the American Legion Texas Centennial Committee, he promoted issuance of the Texas Centennial half-dollar and raised funds to create the Texas Memorial Museum in Austin, of which he was curator for many years. In 1945 the Texas Legislature appointed him Commissioner of the Texas Statehood Centennial Commission. He served as executive director of the Texas Heritage Foundation, and published many newspaper and magazine columns and stories, as well as a number of books. Mr. Adair died in Austin in 1966." .
