Goode was born in 1939 and studied at Chouinard. The name Jose Bueno is a play on words and per an interview by Goode the name Bueno comes from a plaque he had made. When he had a studio on Western near Melrose he created a large glass plaque gold leafed with the words Studio-Jose Bueno to make the Chicanos in the area feel like a gringo fit in.
