Book desription: N.Y., , 1790's. Browned, some fxg., v. minor fraying at edges. Gd. Folio. One lg. page of sheet music removed from the binding of an old 1798 book. 1 pg., measures 9 1/2 x13 1/8 in. An English military band instrumental march probably written by William Jackson (1730-1803). Below heavy black title is imprint, "New York Printed for G, Gilfert & Co. at their Musical Magazine No. 177 Broadway." Below imprint are 16 staffs of music, dark heavy black print. Unsure if complete on this 1 pg. Reverse blank side has large pen signature in contemp. brown ink, "Cornelia Paterson." Believed to be the daughter of William Paterson (1745-1806), member of provincial congress, Constitutional Convention, Continental Congress, lawyer, attorney general of N.J., U.S. Senator, U.S. Supreme Court Justice." Cornelia Bell Paterson was born in 1780, later became the wife of Stephen Van Rensselaer III, noted N.Y. politician, N.Y. lieutenant governor, strong proponent of western canal which resulted in Erie Canal. Item sold with 9pp. of research material incl. much on William Paterson, the reprod. of a portrait of Cornelia Paterson as wife of Van Rensselaer, research on Van Rensselaer.
