Book description: New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1939. pp: x, 415. Illustrated with forty-eight b&w photographs taken by the author, located at the front of the book, thirteen maps. Bound in green cloth titled in gilt, on a black ground to the spine. Whilst the copyright page states that this is the Fifth Edition ( edition letters I - N, Sept. 1938) I suspect that it should be construed as Fifth Printing. The dust jacket is worn and chipped to the top edges and lacks about 3mm across the head of the spine; spine sunned to the point where the titling is almost illegible. The story of a young couple's 16,000 mile , three year, journey from San Diego to Panama via Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Cocos Island. That could be a fairly hairy trip in a decent sized boat....they did it in a sixteen-foot combination sailboat, kayak, surfboat and canoe that they built themselves!!! They started their journey with five dollars between them and a very minimum of supplies. They hold the record of being the smallest vessel to pass officially through the Panama Canal...at a cost of 75 cents. The author is the grand-nephew of Richard Dana, author of Three Years Before the Mast.. Fifth Edition.. Cloth, Gilt Lettering.. Fine/Good, Price Clipped. Illus. by Dana Lamb ( Photographs ).. Tall 8vo. Travel, Adventure, Central America..
