Tokyo: Maruzen Kubushiki Kaisha, 1911 xvii, 131pages, hardcover, impressed gilt title and author shown on front board; frontispiece in 80 color blocks heightened with gold and silver by T. Tamura (finest possible example of wood block printing using 80 blocks); 33 collotype plates; and 22 pages of half tone illustrations by K. Ogawa showing 87 Figures and 49 Kyosai seals on three plates. Contents include Life of the Painter, Painting Materials, Painting Methods, Examples of technique, Signatures and Seals, Catalogue of collection, and Glossary. Green cloth with gilt decoration on front board and title, blind stamped decoration on back board. Corners bumped and worn through, spine fraying at head and tail, exterior hinges starting to loosen; front cover outer hinge has a 1 inch split at head of spine, back cover outer hinge has 2 inch and 3.5 inch splits. The rear board inner hinge has been repaired. Back board has been rubbed. Owner's signature in kanji on ffep; All 34 titled tissue guards are present and in very good condition. Endpapers have some light foxing and occasional very light foxing is found on some internal leaves. Some leaves have toning around edges, not affecting text; a few are lightly to moderately toned overall. The toning is the result of four different paper types, the tissue guards, the text only leaves, the half tone leaves, and the collotype plates.
