I must be a part of this war"; a German American's fight against Hitler and Nazism. (World War II; the global, human, and ethical dimension) by Kollander, Patricia
Fordham University Press, 2005. Hardbound. New Book. Hardbound. Ostracized by the Nuremberg Laws because he had one Jewish grandparent, Kurt Frank Korf emigrated, alone and nearly penniless, but was perfectly positioned to observe the German-American community and how it responded to the Bund and nazi supporter Fritz Kuhn. He enlisted, became an intelligence officer and administrator of a war camp, and as a US attorney in Berlin and Munich helped in the hunt for former nazi leaders. Particularly interesting is Korf's investigation into the diaries of Goebbels and their history. Kollander and the late O'Sullivan (history, Florida Atlantic U.) take on the issues that came with the German-American experience of the Second World War, including ethnicity, identity, religious affiliation and practice, political ideology, and what it meant to be a "hyphenated American" patriot in a time of war.
