The author wrote an influential series of articles and books which popularized the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. He became known as the father of the Outdoor Movement and is among the major writers who caused tens of thousands of New Englanders to travel to the unspoiled wilderness in the Adirondacks. An important classic on American early perceptions of the environment to be enjoyed rather than exploited. Bound in green cloth over beveled boards lettered in black centrally stamped in gilt depicting a rifle and oar, spine lettering gilt, light wear to spine ends and corners. A very good copy.

William Henry Harrison Murray of Boston's Park Street Church wrote more about nature than any other Eastern writer and has been called: "the greatest sportsmen of America". It may have been his writings that captured the imagination of many city dwellers who began to camp in the Adirondacks. A fine copy bound in blue cloth lettered and ruled in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, some toning from the original dust jacket which is not present and a couple of tiny spots to rear board. A very nice copy.

The second a pictorial note card with Bebee's note concerning his upcoming trips to Trinidad, the West Indies and other places signed and within postmarked envelope. Beebe is regarded as one of the founders of the field of ecology as well as one of the early 20th century's major advocates of conservation. He is also known for his deep dives in the Bathysphere; his monograph on pheasants, and numerous other books on natural history. Bound in green cloth titled over gilt, spine lettering gilt, some spots of rubbing and one small teardrop stain. A very good copy.

The author "furnishes a historical and geographical setting for her study of what "Moses recorded in history, what Solomon said in his wisdom, what David sang in ecstasy and what Job cried out in his agony." Along with several other birds. A very good copy bound in a cloth binding resembling a tree with a bird peeping out, lettering yellow, spine lettering yellow, top edge gilt, some chipping or fraying to spine ends, light wear to corners, pictorial endpapers. Previous owner's name in pencil date 1917. [MacLean 22].

Camden, S.C.: Briar Patch Press, 1989. 0blong Quarto. 200p. Inscribed by Bob Kuhn in 1990 to John Huyler, UR. Printed in a small print run, this is a fine copy in a fine dust jacket. uhn often painted simple backgrounds with horizontal bands of color and light. He worked primarily in acrylic and is well known for his ability to paint the particular movements and personalities of wild animals. He was a member of the Society of Animal Artists in New York and his works are featured in the permanent collections of many museums including the National Museum of Wildlife Art. At the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, his painting Lair of the Cat, won the prestigious 1991 Prix de West awarded by the Academy of Western Art.

Washington: Smithsonian Institution, 1939. Octavo. 18 pages, illustrated. The Two Medicine Formation in northwestern Montana has had one of the most remarkable findings of dinosaurs and other important fossils from the Campanian stage. Charles W. Gilmore was a major American paleontologist whose papers were written primarily while in the employ of the National Museum of Natural History. This is one of his most scarce papers his work in the late 1930's after his last expedition to the Two Medicine Formation. This copy is from the library of William H. Carr, a curator of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City Museum from 1919-1944, his name is stamped on the front wrap. Also, below Carr's name there is another stamped name of Botanist William H. Brown (1884-1939) who was Director of the Philippines Bureau of Science, 1924-1933, and then a lecturer in botany at Johns Hopkins University, 1934-1939. Staple bound in very good condition.

1912. 18 1/2" x 14 3/4" Signed by Henry Fairfield Osborn, President, and the Secretary, Adrian Iselin Interestingly, in tiny print we learn it was produced by Tiffany and Company. Charles L. Freer (1856-1919) was an American industrialist, art collector, and patron. He is known for his large collection of East Asian, American, and Middle Eastern Art. In 1906, Freer donated his extensive collection to the Smithsonian Institution, making him the first American to bequeath his private collection to the United States although they had intended to refuse it until Teddy Roosevelt intervened. He also funded the construction of the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and was a strong patron of the American Museum of Natural History.
