The section titled 'Comets' discusses the return of Halley's: "the return of Halley's comet was a complete success in the history of astronomy, in proving that like the planets and all other celestial bodies obey the great law of gravitation". It lists the principal periodic comets observed, and also those with the longest tails (p101). 4to, 110pp, plates. Original green cloth covers, with gilt title and stars at front cover, gilt title at spine. Spine end slt rubbed, rear cover marked, discolored. Internally, very good, bright and fresh, immaculate.
