Bent on discovering the meaning of cultural and historical phenomena, their approach will be humanistic, and they will express themselves in terms understood by the educated layman." <P> Divided into five parts, including Introduction and Conclusion, the parts and their authors are: Introduction and Conclusion by the Frankforts, John A Wilson on Egypt, Thorkild Jacobsen on Mesopotamia, and William A. Irwin on The Hebrews. <P> Covers (green cloth with bright gilt design to front board and bright gilt design and titles to spine) are faded at the spine with a minimum of edgewear. The DJ (clipped) is edgeworn (esp to top and bottom of spine panel, there is a fold line across most of the top of the front panel leading to a small closed tear at the front panel's fore-edge and there's a bit of soiling. DJ is now in protective sleeve. Textblock is clean and tight except for inked prior owner's name and date "December, 1957" and very slight soiling to page edges. . First Edition. Cloth. FPDP shows signs of this having been a school library book, but rest of book is clean and tight. DJ (price-clipped) has numerous nicks and creases and a 1.5-inch closed tear near top oof spine on front panel.. First Edition (apparently). Pictorial Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. "But I leave them now as they stand, for no time nor labour would be enough to complete them to my contentment; and I believe that they contain suggestions which may be followed with safety, by persons who are beginning to take interest in the aspects of mythology, which only recent investigation has removed from the region of conjecture to that of rational inquiry"....
