Laid in is a pamphlet from the Grenfell Press announcing its forthcoming publication of Burroughs' "The Cat Inside". As that book was not published until 1986 and Cities of the Night ws oublished in 1981 the pamphlet probably did come with it originally.

Dustjacket is very good, but lower half inch of spine extending for an inch or so on front and rear panels is a bit crinckled. Still, an attractive copy. Includes original drawings by Abbey, the anarchist, activist, philosopher, and spiritual father of the environmental movement.

This appears to be an ex-library book but the only indications of this are a small "Montgomery County, Maryland" stamp on the top edge, and the inside flaps are affixed to the boards. NY: Grove Press/Everfreen, 1959. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. Softcover, Evergreen original (E-160), issued simultaneously with the first hardcover edition. It was written in 1952 when Kerouac was living with William S. Burroughs in Mexico City but not published until 1959. Very good condition though the front endpaper is toned from laid in newspaper reviews, which are of some interest. One is by Julian Monynahan, writing in the London Observer, who trashes Kerouac's previous novels including On the Road but goes on to praise Doctor Sax. The second review is from Die Welt, is in German and discusses Ein amerikanischer Buddah. (box 171)
