Paris: Chez l'Artiste, 1971. A CHARMING, ACCOMPLISHED, AND EXTREMELY RARE SELF-PUBLISHED SUITE OF 16 SURREALIST ETCHINGS (WITH AQUATINT) by Claude Gondard, best known for his numismatic work. Etched title-page (SIGNED IN PENCIL BY THE ARTIST) plus 15 full-page etchings. EDITION LIMITED TO ONLY 25 NUMBERED COPIES, printed on extremely fine Arches wove paper. 25.2 x 16.5 cm. Housed in an attractive custom-made cloth clamshell case. This copy, exceptionally, contains and additional signed print not issued with the set. One etching discolored on verso; another etching discolored in margins, else FINE AND BRIGHT. Extremely rare: the only other set I located is that in the Bibliothèque Narionale in Paris (FRBNF35949410).

Detroit: printed by the artist, 1947. An original signed woodcut by Arthur C. Danto, executed in 1947 while he was an undergraduate at Wayne State University (he graduated in 1948). In this Expressionist image we see Joseph looking downcast in a dark cell, sitting on a bench with his ankle chained to the floor. 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" (block), 18" x 13" (sheet). Signed (A. Danto), dated ('47), titled (Joseph in Prison), and justified (3/25) in pencil. Only SIX IMPRESSIONS WERE ACTUALLY PRINTED, as indicated by the "6" at lower right (and confirmed by Danto). Monogrammed in the block. This is an extremely fine and rich impression, printed by the artist himself, on fine, thick, brownish-gray laid paper. A few marginal restorations, otherwise in excellent condition. Danto went on to have a successful career as an printmaker during the 1950s. Each of the prints is signed, titled, and justified by the artist in pencil. Plates measure 20 x 13 inches (51 x 33 cm), sheets measure 30 x 23 inches (76 x 58.5 cm). Printed in delicate tones of purple and orange. Originally, this set was to be published in an edition of 75, but the publisher died before the project was completed. Finally only a few impressions were actually printed and signed, and THESE PRINTS HAVE NEVER BEFORE BEEN OFFERED TO THE PUBLIC. In absolutely perfect condition, like new.
