This is enlivened by Campbell's scholarly and witty introduction and notes on the colour plates. On Farquharson: "The model for this picture fought at Culloden at the age of 115, having also fought with Montrose a century earlier!The tartan is one which was not associated with the clan until much later, but he presents a magnificent figure with his Lochaber axe whose hook allowed you to drag a horseman from the saddle before doing him no good at all with the sharp end."
