With 65 figures. ¶ Florkin, the 'Fouding father of comparative biochemistry' was a pupil of Léon Fredericq. He wrote over 800 scientific papers, and contributed greately to the history of life sciences. An interesting association copy (dated 1 dec. 1970) with author's autograph dedication to the Baron & Baroness Arnoud Papeians de Morchoven (dit van der Strepen). Including the original prospectus for this publication, and a memo card in Florkin's handwriting, drawing the Baron's attention to a publication of M.V. Brian "Social Insect populations" (1965). --(Les Grands Problèmes de la Biologie #2).

Contemporary dark green half morocco (some minute rubbing and some occasional slight discolouring), In compartments gilt lettered and decorated. With 35 engraved (steel-engravings) plates.. Cahiers I-VI, all that have been published, and complete sets, like our's, are quite rare. Cahier II-VI in first edtitions, Cahier I in 3rd edition. The catalogue BM(NH) list only the 5th Cahier in 3rd edition; Not in Wood.--(Some scattered light foxing or brownings as usual for French books from this epoque; the Cahier V has a few pages with some light ink stains in the outer marging; lower corner of the rear side has a slight crack).

London,: Edward Standford,, (1866).. 4 folded charts, measuring 24,5 x 65 cm. each, comprising over 800 figures, chiefly of Mollusca - from the Pleiocene to the Eocene -, engraved by J.W. Lowry after the drawings of C.R. Bone. Preserved within the original limp boards ( frayed along the edges; spine reinforced with a worn cloth strip; a few folds of the charts are a bit worn). The cat. B.M. (N.H) III, 1186 list the same 4 charts under a slight different title. No doubt the same work, but probably a second run of the plates. A very acceptable copy of this rare work.

A Neuchatel,: Chez Samuel Fauce,, 1779.. 2 volumes, (iv), 468; (ii), 550 pp. 8vo. Contemporary boards (partly slightly rubbed & dam.), entirely uncut. With 1 folded engraved plate. ¶ The last and best edition of this work, being vol. V & Vi of Oeuvres d'Histoire Naturelle et de Philosophie. Including a 6 page addiitional note not to be found in other editions. An important work in which he i.a. attacks buffon's system of organic molecules. He often discusses the work and discoveries of Trembley and Needham, and he used numerous of Haller's arguments to support his own believe in the preformation of the embryo. g&m, 472 (ed. of 1762); Nordenskiold 243-247: Of Bonnet's scientific theories the best known is his thorougly worked-out preformation theory". -- Copy with ample margins.

Sabatier was professor of Zoologt at the University of Montpellier and founder of the zoological station "de Sette". In his various works he postulated some interesting views regarding "evolution", but he and his works seem to be forgotten today.--(Bibliothèque Evolutioniste IV).

Copy with ample margins. The genuine reprint of author's famous article, originally written for E. Guérin-Méneville's Dictionaire pittoresque d'Histoire Naturelle (1833-1839). The plates were engraved after the drawings by the great artist and embryologist G. Martin Saint-Ange. The half title reads: De Génération Spontanées: De l'Ovologie et de l'Embryologie. -- (Partly slightly foxed).

A nicelly illustrated general zoology (from the mollusc to the mammal).

A charming contemporary binding: full marbled calf, remnants of gilt rullers on sides, spine in compartments gilt decorated, red morocco title-label, gilt dotted ruller at the outer and inner edges of the sides, gilt edges. With a fine frontispiece engraved by B.J. Prévost, Bardou's printer's mark op title, several fine engraved headings and footers Very finely printed by Bardou, one of the limited issues of his series "Collections d'Auteurs Latin" printed on "Papier Bleuté". A famous neo-Latin poem in the style of Virgil's "Georgica". First published at Paris in 1665, and followed by many later edition and translations. The present edition is concluded by Brotier's (1732-1789) remarks on Rapin's poem and a history of the classical garden.

A splendid and finely printed and illustrated volume to celebrate the first 100 years of the Société entomologique de France (1831-1931). There are 60 articles (both historic and scientific) by the foremost entomologist of the period. Including the description of several new species, and or new variants.

With 3 portraits of Mendel, 38 figures in the text and 6 coloured plates of which 5 double-page. ¶ First published in 1902, rewritten in 1909 and here in the updated final (and best) edition of 1913. "Bateson opposed Galton's theory of continuous inheritance and insisted on the truth of the phenomenon of discontinuity in variation.
