The two title pages are nicely printed within a typographical border. Some woodcut head and tail pieces. ¶ Nice copy. Prison care and reform in early 19th century Belgium.

With 2 plates. ¶ The rare original edition, including a description of Hôpital Saint-Jean. Copy with some pensil annotations. Added are 4 newspaper cuts related to Memling and Jan van Eyck.

Sides richly tooled in gold, panel design with drawer handle motifs and interlacings à la pointillé. Spine with 6 raised bands, in compartments gilt decorated with floral motifs (outer corners of sides very slightly rubbed). With an engraved frontispiece and 5 engraved plates. ¶ A very rare exemple of a frivolously binding on a Calvinistic work. There are not many Dutch (speudo) Fanfare bindings known.

Lille,: Emile, Raoust,, 1929.. [iv], xlii, 502 pp. 8vo (14 x 23 cm.). Original orange printed wrappers, entirely unopened and uncut. With 24 black and white plates. ¶ The standard reasoned catalogue of the work of Cornelis Engebrechtsz (1475-1527), who lived in Leiden and established a large and productive workshop there that trained many important painters. He primarily painted biblical scenes hat were distinctive through their use of warm colours and layered glazes. This work contains ample bibliographical references, learned notes, indexes and a "life of Engebrechtsz" after Van Mander (1604). -(Edges partly slightly foxed).

Bruxelles,: J. Moris,, 1759.. vi, 283, [xiii] pp. Small 8vo (10,5 x 16,5 cm.). Bound in 19th century half olive morocco, spine divided into 5 compartments with 7 quadruple gilt rulers, gilt lettered; 4 blind tooled floral ornaments in 4 compartments; marbled end papers (partly some very slight rubbing). Title printed in red and black. With some wood-engraved headers, and one engraved figure of a pantograph. ¶ This very popular and outstanding treatise on miniature painting with ample attention for flower painting. It went, at least, through 11 editions. The first (1672) & the second (1674) were entitles "Traité de la Mignature". From the "nouvelle édition, first published at Lyon in 1679, the title has changed into "Elole de la Mignature. The present edition is the only one published at Brussels, the last edition was published in 1817 in Paris. A very good copy. Barbier II, 15 (in the 2nd edition of Barbier, the work was attributed to Christophe Ballard).

'Paris,: A. Desrez,, 1836.. 2 volumes: [viii], xii, 636; viii, 876 pp. 4to (17,6 x 25,6 cm.). Uniformly bound in red polished calf. A splendid and most exuberant Simier binding: Front and rear sides with large blind stamped center medaillion (un beau décor à plaque romantique, 111 x 196 mm.) showing ornamental and peacock motifs, octavo gilt rullers along the edges of the sides with gilt floral decorations in the corners; Spine with 4 double raised bands, gilt lettered and richly gilt tooled, signed 'Simier R. du Roi' at the bottom of each spine; Gilt line along the outer edges of the sides; Floral ruller along the inner edges of the sides; Blue-white marbled end-papers with repeating peackock motifs; edges gilt. ¶ Les Simier (René, 1772-1843 & Alphonse, 1796-1859), "relieurs du roi" were the indisputable master bookbinders of the Romantic period. The present piece is an outstanding example of their art. A lovely, and almost perfect copy.

Original coloured printed wrappers (nice skating scene), uncut (back strip gone; some minute loss of paper from the outer corners of the first side). With 52 illustrations (engravings) in the text. Rare. One of the few 19th century French works on ice skating and ice dancing. Charmingly illustrated. Besides pratical information about the technique of scating, the works als contains ample historical information about the history of ice skating in Europe.

Padova,: Giuseppe Corona,, 1732.. [vi], 156 pp. 12mo (8 x 14,5 cm.). Contemporary vellum & red marbled edges (slightly stained). ¶ Good copy of the first italian translation of Duguet's famous 'Traité des Scrupule' (1717). No copy in the BNF nor in the N.U.C.

Contemporary half olive calf, spine with 4, gilt tooled, raised bands; 2 gilt lettered and numbered brown morocco labels; blind tooled ornamental decoration in 3 compartments; marbled boards and endpapers, marbled edges (an attractive romantic binding). ¶ This Belgium pirate edition was published in the same year as the Paris original.--(Slightly browned and scattered light foxing).
