Covers heavily worn along edges, spine is chipped at top and bottom, front cover is very loose and split along edge, but gilt ornamentation has only light wear. Text is age-toned and foxed, plates are age-toned and mostly unfoxed, presentation and date (January 25, 1852) on front free endpaper, 4cm tear to frontispiece margin and a strip of the front pastedown torn off.
