Description:
1897. Manuscript. Autograph album page (aprox. 4"x7") signed recto in ink "Most truly yours/ Otis Skinner/ 1897" and on the verso in ink "Marie Wainwright" , with a small pencil notation at the bottom in another hand, "Denver, Colo.--Feby 5--'98". Evenly toned and a bit rough about the outer edge and with a corner crease not affecting the signatures. Otis Skinner (1858-1942), a native of Cambridge, Mass., was a famed American stage actor who early in his career was in Edwin Booth's company. He played many Shakespearian roles and gained great acclaim for his role in "Kismet" (1911). He wrote extensively about the stage and was the father of actress and author Cornelia Otis Skinner. Marie Wainwright (1856-1923), a Philadelphia native, was an American stage actress who played mostly in light or comedic roles; she made the transition to film in the early 20th century, appearing in several silents.

Description:
University Press of Kentucky, 2013. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. First printing. Hardcover. xi+ 370 pp. with index. Illustrated with photos. Fine in fine dust jacket. With unique beauty and refined acting skills, Ann Dvorak (1911-1979) found success in Golden Age Hollywood during a time when many actors were still struggling to adapt to the era of talkies. Critics dubbed her "Hollywood's New Cinderella" after Howard Hughes cast her in the 1932 "Scarface". Dvorak reached the pinnacle of her success in the early 30s but was one of the first individuals to dare to challenge the studio system when she walked out on her Warner Brothers contract. She would return to Warner Brothers but the studio retaliated by casting her in less significant roles and she later initiated a legal dispute over her contract.
