Oblong quarto sized volume, spiral bound in black card wrappers lettered in gilt. ix+176 pp. plus section of 39 black and white photographic plates at rear. Appendices include "the Principal Dimensions and Scantlings" from the 1789 "Shipbuilders Repository", extracts from Sutherland's 1717 "Shipbuilding Unveil'd", Griffith's 1854 "Treatise on Marine and Naval Architecture" . Illustrated with drawings and diagrams. A tight example, internally clean, Plate 25 loose but present. The words "Old Time Ships" are wriiten in black on the fore edge of the text block.

1919. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition; no place, no date (ca. 1919). Hardcover in navy blue cloth stamped in gilt. 126 pp. ; crew roster. Illustrated with full page photographic plates. The story of the U.S.S. Northern Pacific , a World War I transport ship told by exerpts from its official log. Built in 1913-14, it was a West Coast passenger steamer until it was commissioned by the Navy in 1917 for war service. It was commanded by three different capytians during the war, Charles Preston, L.J. Connelly and R.D. White. After the war, the ship remained in use by the Army until she was destroyed by fire in 1922. Very good, trace of wear to the foot of the spine and front tip, poccasional fingering to the text.

Very good or somewhat better. 39 pp. Consists of reproductions of photographs and newspaper articles relating to the St. Lawrence Seaway project. A joint venture of the UnitedStates and Canada, it was a major canal and navigable channels project of 15 locks running between the Atlantic Ocean and the western end of Lake Superior. Ity was built along the St. Lawrence River in order to bypass several rapids and dams and to help generate hydroelectric power for Ontario. After years of inaction, the U.S. Congress finally approved the plan in 1954 and the seaway opened for large ships in 1959.
