New York: Knopf, 1975. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Hardcover. 293 pp. plus index. Illustrated with photos. First edition (stated). Fine in fine, price clipped dust jacket. The story of one of the most (in)famous true crime cases in late 20th century New York City. In 1965, Alic Crimmins reported her two children--five year old Eddie, Jr. and four-year old Missy--missing from their Kew Gardens, Queens home. Later that day, Missy's strangled body was found (Eddie's never was) and police had no clues to the identity of the killer. Crimmins was followed and covertly recorded by the NYPD for three years and was, in 1968, charged with manslaughter in Missy's death. She was convicted but upon appeal the verdict was overturned; in 1971, she was charged with first-degree murder in Eddie's death and manslaughter in Missy's death, was convicted of both but this verdict as well was overturned in 1973, following which she was re-convicted of manslaughter in Missy's death. She was paroled in 1978.

New York: Scribners, 2022. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. First edition, first printing. Fine in fine dust jacket. Hardcover. 348 pp. with index. Illustrated with photos. John Gotti, one of the most feared and certainly the flashiest mafioso in American history, became boss of the Gambino Crime Family with the brazen and very public murder of Paul Castellano in front of Sparks Steak House in midtown Manhattan in 1985. Never one to stay below law enforcement's radar, Gotti favored eye-catching apparel and beat enough criminal charges to earn the nickname "The Teflon Don". Author John Gleeson, an assistant U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn, was watching carefully; his first racketeering case aginst Gottin ended in acquittal --and put him in the Dapper Don's crosshairs. Five years later, Gleeson was in charge of a second racketeering investigation and using secret recordings and the testimony of Sammy "The Bull" Gravano who Gleeson flipped, didn't end as well for Gotti.
