I owned an independent general bookstore in Charleston S.C. {Chapter Two Bookstore} for almost twenty years. I have been an avid reader all of my life so when I opened my own bookstore in 1983, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Every time a shipment arrived, it felt like Christmas morning. Just looking at those beautiful books just made me so excited to have the opportunity to enjoy them and share them with customers. I know that you should not ever "judge a book by its cover," but I love book cover art and appreciate it even more when it really captures the essence of the book. It's not suprising that I quickly became an avid collector of modern first editions. Although it breaks my heart to do so, I am now selling from the collection I accumulated during that time to supplement my retirement income.
