Books by Jan

Books by Jan

Open book store

Moravian Falls, North Carolina, United States

Our business was first established as Stone of Scone Antiques in 1976 in Connecticut. About 10 years later, my husband Tom, who had become intrigued with Samuel Colt and Colt Firearms, became a Federally Licensed Firearms dealer. We sold and appraised antique and collectible firearms, hand loading equipment, and ammunition. We also sold the typical antique items. Eventually we became disenchanted with antiques. Being a book lover most of my life, I decided to add books to our shop. We started with one bookcase and within six months we were putting an addition on the shop - just for the books. Then the books started to overflow into the house and we decided to list our books on-line. Therefore, Books by Jan was born. In October 2000, we closed our shop and relocated to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. We purchased a 50-acre mountain and built our semi-retirement log home on the top. We are 2,360\' high with a view of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt. Jefferson in North Carolina, and Mt. Rogers in Virginia. Daily we watch the deer graze in our front and back yards, peer at the wild turkeys as they devour the grasshoppers and insects, and just simply - enjoy our new home.

I deal principally in rare and fine books.I also sell antique prints, including Japanese ukiyo-e.I have eclectic and wide-ranging interests and my collection generally emphasizes non-fiction titles. Areas of book specialization include: Scholarly, Small Press/Fine Press, Books on Books, Graeco-Roman History, European & U.S. History, Western Americana, Californiana, Colonial New Spain and Mexico, and War/Military. A number of my titles are in Spanish. As for prints, I amchiefly interested in ukiyo-e, ornithologicals, typographicals, iconography/churches, military, and antique maps. But Ie will not pass up miscellaneous curiosities.I have a small but choice selection of books and prints available for the discriminating collector/buyer.My goal is to establish and maintain a stock in trade of a few thousand fine books and a few hundred noteworthy prints.I do not aspire to be a big fish in a little pond much less a big fish in a big pond. Rather,I valuemy reputation for attention to detail and to merit. And whileI consequently enjoy an ongoing relationship with a select group of customers, one-time buyers are always welcome and no purchase by anyone is so small as not to justifymy fullest attention.
