Also accompanied by a postcard from another professor by the name of 'Glasson'. The postcard reads: "Dear Laprade; I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of your review of Bassett's Lost Fruits of Waterloo. It would be very timely if you should make a short article of it. Send it along. The influenza epidemic at the college has almost subsided. Cordially Glasson" The influenza epidemic of 1918 killed millions of people around the world. Also present is a card from J. Sterling Moran, Director Southeastern Dept. of the Community Motion Picture Bureau, also the insert by Macmillan Company suggesting that this book is for editorial purposes only and if in the interest of the public, the price would be $1.50. A letter from Gordon Bennett, the New York Herald, to C. H. Meltzer a correspondent to cover the 4th Railroad Congress to be held in St. Petersburg on August 20th, 1872 in which Bennett is going to vacation and show up. He is writing this letter from his Paris appartment at 190 Avenue des Champs Elysees...google it folks....This letter has some stains and edge tears and as you can see from the pictures it has some conservator's repairs as well. Tearing at the creases but does mention the possible interview with General Annenkoff (see below for brief on Annenkoff). Folds present but a very nice letter. No information is available on the 4th Railroad Congress in St. Petersburgh but none the less a rare and important railroad history document...despite its creases, tears and stains. Contemporary half-polished calf over boards, spine gilt; an excellent copy with respect to the interior of the book. Unfortunately the board is detached and nearly off. This copy is signed by Henry Oates and resented to him by his Aunt Ann Rayner in Dec. 1797. Ascended from Joseph Henry Oates to Lawrence (Titus) Oates who accompanied Scott on his expedition to the South Pole. Boon was a bookseller with an address of 86 Nassau St. New York. McKay 1554. This publication is 597 pages stuffed with information. Reprints are available but this is an original copy in rebound buckram. There is some damage what looks like wet ink staining ~20 pages and the last ~30 pages but does not affect printing. Binding is tight. A great reference work of the original publication. A rare book.

Title Page Printed in Red and Black by Roger in Amsterdam in 1703, the year after Dominque Bouhours death, this elegantly bound book was once owned by Nicolai Joseph Foucault and has his wonderful bookplate as well as his deeply embossed Seal on the front and back of the book. Period blind stamp binding with 6 wonderful compartments. There is some minor separation of the leather along the spine but that is easily repaired. The book is tight, crisp and is in overall very good condition. Dominique Bouhours (15 May 1628 - 27 May 1702) was a French Jesuit priest, essayist and neo-classical critic. He was born and died in Paris. Bouhours entered the Society of Jesus at the age of sixteen, and was appointed to read lectures on literature in the Collège de Clermont at Paris, and on rhetoric at Tours and Rouen. Signed by the Author, Pierre Bourgeois to Milton Lord, who became the Boston Public Library head. written in French and in near perfect as printed and bound condition. Some slight toning and sunnint along the cloth spine on the front board with some minor bumps. Otherwise, interior is clean, bright and in excellent condition.
