Richly illustrated study of ship design in America. Chapters include: Block Island boats and Pinkys; The Fishing Schooner; The Baltimore Clipper; The Pac Ship "Isaac Webb"; The Frigate "Raleigh"; The Frigate "Congress"; and Masts a Spars of United States Naval Vessels. Dust Jacket is usually not present. Jacket has loss of paper, front and back (see photos) otherwise, toned and some spine sunning. Now preserved. A rare edition. Motoring memoirs by the author, better-known as Sammy Davis, from before WW1 up to the 1950s. He was sports editor of "The Autocar" magazine for many years and competed in motor racing in the 1920s and 30s. Abstract:The Eleazar Smith biographical sketch is Thomas A. Dickinson's 1881 transcription of Smith's memoir, originally written in 1828. Smith described his experiences as a militiaman during the Revolutionary War, as well as his work as an inventor and machinist in Medfield and Walpole, Massachusetts. Eleazar Smith was born in Medfield, Massachusetts, on April 1, 1755. He had little to no formal education and made a living creating and repairing clocks and other machines, such as devices for making pins and nails, and for setting card teeth. In the summer of 1776, he enlisted in the Medfield militia. He was initially stationed at Ticonderoga, New York, where he was court-martialed on suspicion of counterfeiting currency in the fall of 1776; he later participated in a march to Rhode Island, where he deserted in October 1777. Complete with full introduction to Lord Clifford and large plate of Virgil at the Senate. Contains the Life of Virgil, and an extensive dedication section to Montrose, later. Some browning to the pages somewhat affecting the text and images but this phenomena correspond to other copies. A rare work that includes the subscriber list for this Royal Folio First Edition. Tastefully restored, retaining original leather, except at spine. A complete edition.

Title page remounted, Tear B1, somewhat affecting text and browned pages that correspond to other copies. Priced accordingly for this rare Subscribed Royal Folio First Edition. Rebound in a modern binding of mottled calf and tastefully restored.
