Original black cloth with gilt design of a graveyard cross set within a vignette border to front cover; gilt titles; 160pp; numerous unattributed story header vignettes and illustration to last page. Preface plus nine short stories, somewhat anticipating the 'fin-de-siecle' style of the 1890s. Bleiler harshly dismisses the collection as 'weak' but the title story is an excellent example of the decadent and moody gothic style.
