Description:
1922. CHINESE EASTERN RAILWAY. Severnaia Manchzhuriia i Kitaiskaia Vostochnaia Zheleznaia Doroga [Northern Manchuria and the Chinese Eastern Railway]. ix, 692, xxiii, iii, [2] pp., with photo-illustrations, maps, charts and graphs throughout. 4to, 292 x 213 mm., bound in publisher's blue cloth. Harbin: Tipografiia Kitaiskoi Vostochnoi Zheleznoi Dorogi, 1922. A splendid account of this railway whose interest is hugely increased by the mass of elaborate charts and illustrations, which in many ways prefigure the use of isotypes a few years later. A fine copy of a rare book, with OCLC listing copies in the U.S. at Harvard, Yale, U Mass Amherst and Johns Hopkins.

Description:
1934. EDEL, Nico. Una visita a Cinzano. 44 pp., illustrated throughout. Folio, 320 x 265 mm., bound in original illustrated wrappers in a new cloth folding box. [Milano, Alfieri & Lacroix]: N.d., [1934 or 1936]. A spectacular and rare piece of Italian book design under fascism, but without the usual heavy hand of Mussolini, presumably because it was done as an advertisement. The overall layout is imaginative and makes extensive use of photomontage. The overall effect is reminiscent of the publications issued by Maison Nicolas, the French purveyor of wines. Not listed on OCLC.

Description:
1847. EUCLID. The First Six Books of the Elements of Euclid, in which Coloured Diagrams and Symbols are used instead of Letters for the Greater Ease of Learners. By Oliver Byrne. xxix, [1], 268 pp., illustrated throughout with colour-printed diagrams. Small 4to, 237 x 188 mm., bound in original publisher's drab cloth, edges untrimmed, in a new half morocco protective box. London: [Charles Whittingham for] William Pickering, 1847. First and only edition of Byrne's Euclid, surely one of the most remarkable Victorian books. These Mondrian-like designs of bold, primary colours are printed in faultless register, and the striking composition on the page is unique in bookmaking. Ruari McLean describes it as "one of the oddest and most beautiful books of the whole century." Both McLean and Joan Friedman agree that it is Whittingham's "triumph." In describing the complicated printing processes, Friedman writes: "Although the areas of colour were all flat tones without…
