Crossroad, NY, 1982. First printing of this collection of essays about the Kyoto School of Mahayana Buddhism. The essays were taken mostly from a publication called The Eastern Buddhist, and include four previously unpublished essays written by D.T. Suzuki near the end of his life. As the editor says, the volume is an anthology of "significant but unavailable writings of the Kyoto School." The book has been slightly underlined and there are a few scholarly annotations. This copy bears the ownership label of Thomas Wentworth Higginson, known for having led the first black regiment in the Civil War, less well-known as being the Military and Naval Historian for Massachusetts, but making for an interesting connection here.
